    Camel Group Discovery.

    Evening all,
We have a relatively new Camel Discovery to match the Discovery (which i actually didnt know it was called that until my wife told me) Been used Once for the show & twice by us. Great having a nice queen bed & comfortable at that.

Anyone else with a Camel Disco that would like to share some notes on what to look out for & tips/tricks etc would be very warmly welcomed.

The Spring is here & we are off in November so time to start tinkering.

Also anybody know whats a good price to pay for an inner spring camper mattress & where to get one??

Thanks in advance & maybe one day we will pull up beside u somewhere & we can chat..& a drink..
    Cheers

    Sniegy,

We have a Camel Bushman. At the time they did not have the Discovery otherwise we probably would have got that. We have taken it around Tassie and just finished a trip to Darwin and back.

Next trip will probably be down the east coast to Melbourne.

It works really well for us. Only problems we have had are:

    1) Even though I followed the procedure for wetting the canvas it still leaked a lot and I have now applied heaps of seam seal. Cause of drought I have not had that tested yet.

    2) I took apart the dropdown legs and greased them up a lot as they became very stiff quite early. The plates that rub together are a bit rough and the grease made a big difference. I may actually machine them at some point.

    3) The passenger side leading corner would allow a fair bit of water through the cover when driving in rain. This might be because I try to squeeze too many things on top of the bed before zipping it up and am stretching the stitching.

I am in two minds about the inner spring mattress. I would like to get one but it would make access to the trailer through the hatch very difficult because of the weight. Mind you I have only done that once in about 7 weeks of actual travelling.

I have added a fair bit of 12v wiring to install lights behind the bed and outlets for lamps next to the tailgate. I also have a light at the end of the kitchen. Will post more pics on weekend as camera battery is on the recharger at the moment.

I am also planning on replacing the seals around the toolbox and between the trailer and the lid before going on any roads with bulldust. From reading other posts I don't think the camel seals will be effective enough.

I noticed at the camping show this year there were a completely different set of Camel Group staff. Do you know if Dave the Scottish guy, Patrick the South African and Norm the Aussie still run the joint?

I forgot about my brother-in-law. He also has a busman but has a stone guard. The bracket on one side cracked and he doesn't go off road. I suspect he put some weight on it, like the kids bikes, cause I cannot see how normal road use would crack it. However he is not the sort of guy to admit things like that.
