Seeking assistance with ex army trailer

    Hi there,

I am seeking some information on what I believe is an ex army trailer that I have.
I purchased the trailer around ten years ago and it has been used on my parents farm all this time to move machinery and such.

    The details are:

    Tray length: 2.08 metres
    Tray width:1.43 metres
    Total width: 2.13 metres
    Total length:3 metres (roughly)
Height to middle of axle: 37cm

    The trailer has:

Land Rover Series 2A hubs (i know this as I loaned a wheel to a Series 2A)
    Block tread "army" tyres
5 leaf suspension with dampers (shock absorbers)
    solid axle
    brakes
    Weighs approx 500kgs
Has been wired with lights yet retains the original 'blackout lights'

I have not been able to find a plackard with anything on it, though it does have one of those small slotted holders on the rear (that you see with regiment details or such on them).
The original master cylinder was replaced with a smaller type due to a leak.

The trailer tows like a beauty, when I bought it i remember the seller syaing they were rated to 750kgs in an conditions (on road, off road etc ..)

Anybody know what this is that I may have sitting in my garage ??

    Thanks in advance[/B]

As has been said before - This Thread is Useless without pics!

That said, does it have an "A" frame or a single pole for its tow coupling?

This is an Aust No 4 - which is a WW2 jeep trailer with modified hubs.

This is a British Army Sankey:

Some others will have to show you their Aust no 5 trailers.

    Hi there,

I was hoping to put a photo or two into the post, but my garage is full of rubbish, so the photo would be luck to show anything useful.

The front assembly is an A-Frame with a NATO ring attachment suitable for a pintel hook.
It seems similar to the AUS number 4 though I am fairly sure it is larger.
Additionally, the mudguard runs the length of the trailer and then rises over each wheel.

I will see if I can squeeze into the garage later and take a phot of the fron of the trailer.

Thanks for the information so far ..

This is an Aust. no.5 workshop variant:

    Hi, Thanks for the info.
I think I may have something different from both the number 4 and number 5.

I will try and get some photos soon, as the few that I was able to take in the garage are pretty useless (see below).
