Thread: My Camper Trailer finally bought one!

Congratulations, hope it works out well. I've just put a deposit down on an off-road trailer which I hope to get in a few months.

Wheels are a real pain, I've opted for Defender rims so I can still have a decent bearing system. As this will be my other tow vehicle to the Disco it's not to bad an option.

Yes Months.

I reckon the business to be in must be off-road campers, because I didn't talk to anyone who would deliver in under 8-10 weeks. One crowd was out to 11 months!

Anyway months suites me as I can't drive out until the end of the wet season to pick it up.

Its in almost new nick, and hardly seen any offroad action. Then again either have I for a while (sore point). Anyway came complete as you see it with full annex, kitchen tool box 12 volt battery system etc for $8K not bad considering Outback want $13200 for this setup new today. Things I want to do from here are sort out some jerry can storage other than in the big tool box ( dont like spark and fuel in the same box scenario ) Upgrad the battery system to include fuses and and charger might need some help here. BTW if it all looks floppy its due to the fact I set it up on my drive and couldnt peg much down!

The one thing that needs to happen is swap the Nissan rims for rover ones which could be a pain as others have noted here. From what I know the offset of the rims are the bigger issue on this trailer and might force me to a different rim set on the RR to make it uniform across the whole package. If I do go this route I also want to get the electric brakes changed to include a handbrake as well.

Any thoughts comments would be appreciated.

That's an excellent price for a fully equiped camper, the rims are no prob with RR/D1/Defender stud pattern, they are off the shelf items from any trailer place, it's only D2/P38/D3 that has a problem getting hubs to suit because of the different pattern.

As for the 12v setup see Drivesafe for his SC80 controller, his system works well charging your battery/batteries in the camper from the car, i highly recommend it.

Looks great Rob. And for the price, I don't think you're likely to find better.

Given the shape of the trailer, don't know where you might be able to set up external storage for fuel cans. Might be easier to move the battery / electrics into a separate box on the draw bar if there's room there for that.

I'm certainly happy with it, I doubt I could by anything close for that money. And your right I want to get away!

I was actually thinking of extending the draw bar and adding an additional box to store the jerrys in separating them from anything else. The draw bar is only 1500mm from the front of the tool box to coupling . If I added 300-500mm I could get it all there.

Or the second option is to take the battery out of the tool box and relocate in the storage area under the bed and put the jerrys in the tool box. The box being sealed makes me nervous with petrol as its not able to vent.
