    DIY Off Road Caravan

Has anyone built there own? I have fancied building my offroad caravan for a long time but I don't have the space to do it, so I tried to persuade my Dad to do it about 7 years ago but he bought a 130 and built a demountable for it. Now he fancies building one and has bought an ex army trailer chassis. We have had loads of ideas of what to do but thought I'd ask here for your thoughts. The trailer has about 8' floor space and we fancy chamfering the back to add a couple more feet. We think it will be just wide enough to sleep across it. Not sure whether it will be a raising roof or a hinged roof or build it taller in the middle only. What do you think? any pics? any www's for us to look at?
Mods please move this to the trailer section which is where I should have posted it. Damn Noobs.

Why dont you have a look at a "Trayon" camper, I am going to build one similar on my ex-army trailer, a few of the campers built to fit on the tray's of 4wd's are quite suitable for fixing to a trailer, they have some ideas and designs you may want to consider, Regards Frank.

I can't help you directly, but are you located in the UK (it may make a difference to the advice that you get)?

From your post I suspect that you have no great ideas on what you want. Is that correct?

    Best Wishes,

Hi, we have ides but are totally undecided about the design really. Yes we are in the England.

RandyLandy I have looked at teardrops before but my old man wants to build a proper caravan for offroad use, we will see.

Havn't replied as I have just come back from Billing ( Landrover Show )

Hi, im in the uk aswell, have seen a few here built on t sanky as a base. Joys of a sanky is they are all ready designed for off road use and it is a case of fitting out the top to suit your needs and more imrtantly, your budget.

A good UK based forum is Land Rover Addict, they are very overland based and a good source of information for a UK based project.

    Cheers

    Hi Gazza,
From your reply, I suspect that it is inappropriate to use "the" in front of "UK" (as UK refers to "The United Kingdom" - true?).

    Apologies from the colonies.

No apology necessary, I am English as opposed to British. Our Scottish and Welsh comrades do not consider themselves British either only immigrants appear to call themselves British once they get a passport.
