Re. the skin, Colorbond roof sheet is light and easy to work. The ribs give it a fair bit of strength. You could rivet it directlly to the frame with blind rivets. A couple of internal pinewood battens afffixed with builders adhesive would prevent flutter... just a suggestion :angel:

Well i havn't updated for a while, but i have been busy doing lots bits on the trailer, i went with 0.7mm Gal steel sheet for the skin, and cut and folded it the other week at work, i have also made doors for the rear and right hand sides. there have also been lots of little jobs that seem to take forever, like tidying up all the welds, and then painting them all, plus bracing all the corners to stop any problems with movement within the frame. we were hoping to have it useable to go away this weekend, but haven't managed that, have fitted most of the skin panels, and support legs at the rear, will be finishing over the next month or so, and will add some photos very soon.

Well i've managed to do a few other little bits and pieces, the worst bit being fitting the door handle/locks as the door on the right side of the trailer has a bend in it, and i had to bend the handles to suit, the housing was easy enough, but took a couple of hours to modify the locking mechanism to suit, but it's done now!

I now need to fit some seals to the door to prevent dust/water ingress and also gas struts to hold the doors open. will also be fitting some tie down rails of some description to secure anything that gets put in the trailer. Once all this is done i intend to paint it to match the Disco. I'm happy with it so far, just need to see how it'll handle the rough stuff and wether i'm happy with how it all works!

well,
I've been busy at work and around the house, so getting stuff done on the trailer has been kind of slow, but i have fitted gas struts to the 2 doors,
funny story there i managed to trap my hand whilst fitting one of the struts, didn't hurt too much, but i couldn't move! took me about 5 minutes to open the corresponding door, couldn't reach the handle was using a tent pole to open it! was worried i was going to be stuck untill the mrs got home, which was 1.5 hours from then! had a good laugh once i got free!
Have seam sealed all the skin panels, and have also sealed the top onto the trailer body. I found some good tie down rails at ARB, and have fitted those also. I will be making and fitting door dust seals soon.
we plan to go away and test the trailer late november for a weekend before heading off over the christmas break. Once i'm happy with it all it will be getting painted to match the disco.

have a look at Discount Trailer Parts - Trailer Spares and Sales
they are under jockey wheels, i have the 2105C Side Winder Jack With Tube Mount 1300kg ... and were about $100 each including transport.
they are 500ish mm compressed and 950ish extended, which is just long enough where i've mounted them to lift the wheels off the ground should i ever need to, makes changing a tyre/ brake maintenance really easy!

Well we went away for the weekend and took the trailer for its first outing, I still have to make the door dust seals, but other than that and painting it's about done, and i couldn't be happier, it tow's like a dream especially on the rough stuff, we were in Abercrombie River National Park and had a ball when leaving by the dry weather only track that suggests you shouldn't tow a trailer, and we actually met a guy with a patrol towing a 4wd trailer who had been to have a look but wasn't game to take his trailer through, didn't even notice the difference between when i last went through without the trailer, and this time with it! it's awesome[biggrin]
the only real problem was that we had far too much space! I had to get a bit inventive in tying stuff down to stop anything bouncing around! and i figure that if that's my biggest problem then i should be pretty happy!
