    Camper Trailer

Hey there everyone, I've been thinking about building my own trailer and using one of these camper tops.

    Pacific Multihulls - NEW-Kit Camper

I have been thinking about using a Landrover chassis from either a disco and rangie and cutting it in half and then welding on a drawbar. Has anyone attempted anything like this before? Would there be any cons to this setup?

What do you guys think about the kit camper?

    Cheers Goran

    Gaday Goran,
I think you will find that the chassis of almost any car is not flat, it is shaped to suit suspension, body, approach and departure angels, let alone all the extra weight that is hanging off it to suit various applications on a vehicle. I'm not saying its imposable but a Standard style camper trailer chassis gives you a perfect strong platform to build from. And unless you have old Landrover chassis hanging around to cut up the steel would be cheaper and much easier labor wise just to build from scratch.
I was very surprised just how cheap the steel was to build my complete camper chassis and I used the heavier walled steel !
I hope I havent squashed your dream there but good luck with it any way you go !
    Cheers
    Jeremy

Disco/ Ranga chassis is good and strong with a proven trailing arm coil spring suspension... but it is heavy and with the chassis curves youll need to build mounting towers.

Would you run the rear axle housing as is sans diff and half shafts... once again probably unecessary weight but easier fabrication than attaching spring and arm mounts to a solid axle.

Everything is possible, it all depends on what you want to achieve and how much fabrication you want to do?
