Mike's ECU upgrade and the vortex work well together. I can vouch for that as I have both. I run the 2.5"/25" muffler with the cat converter and rear resonator still on it. Center muffler changed out for the vortex.
Had the ECU done first, made big difference. Replaced MAF and pressure regulator..made huge difference (wish surge problem had been fixed sooner so I could have enjoyed the ECU upgrade longer).
Replaced muffler with Vortex unit and now DII TD5 exhaust is quieter, TD5 runs smoother and turbo seems to come in quicker.
Result..One happy vegemite with a DII TD5 that runs very well, pulls like a train and gets good fuel economy. What a great vehicle a LandRover Disco II TD5 can be with a bit of tweaking.
Thanks Mike
I don't believe in the vortex muffler theory, but one thing the guys there did mention in a long phone conversation I had with them on Patrol exhausts (their phone call, too) was that they were very surprised when dyno testing with the power increase from having the dump and at least 3 feet of exhaust HPC coated. They picked up somewhere around 4-7 HP on a TD42T Patrol 3" exhaust over uncoated aluminised tube, and backed to back this several times to confirm.
It sounded like the HPC coating increased velocity, increasing scavenging post turbo.
This might be a stupid question, but is the HPC stuff you're talking about something that goes inside the exhaust, or is it an outside coating/wrap?
HPC, Jet Hot and a few others use a high temp coating filled with some sort of ceramic to coat the inside and outside of the tube.

I just wrapped the first 3-4 feet of my 3" exhaust with silica header wrap (Thermo-tec) when I did the clutch a month or so back as I had it on the shelf (for over ten years, used to use it on race car exhausts)
I was always afraid to use the wrap on a roadie as I was always told it would kill the exhaust prematurely, but Inc wrapped his exhaust 80,0000km ago and it's still OK, so I did mine, too.
Hehe... Sorry, missed this one..
Only the vortex is fitted, but the rear box is ok too.
Mine is 3" from the turbo, flex joint near firewall, then vortex, then over diff and dumps downwards just in front of the left rear of the crossmember.
Exhaust is not visible from the rear or side of the defender.
