    fender roof light

I have left this for a long time, but want to fix it now...... and I have also tried the search function but came up dry, so I'll ask here for some ideas....

The issue is the courtesy/internal roof light in the fender (it's a '99 TD5)
It used to turn off by itself after a few seconds of closing the door, or upon starting the engine - obviously with the switch in the middle position. It seems to have changed when I had the roof lining re-done quite a while ago by a very good and reputable marine trimmer (who himself has a disco2), but it never really bothered me as it still worked via the switch either on or off, but not the self-cancelling mode. I have today opened the light fitting but it only has a very simple plug that can only go in one way, so the trimmer did not replace it wrong or anything. I also took out all 3 switches (both doors and back door) and cleaned them etc, but still the light does not go off automatically like it used to...... I am actually quite annoyed now as I could not fix it
Is there a relay or timer or another switch that I have missed? It looks like a really simple setup - except it has me beat

    Mate,

Though someone would have come back before now. I believe there is a time/dimmer relay in the circuit somewhere. A dealer/wrecker should be able to tell & sell you one.

At least on mine the automatic control is in the "hands" of the Alarm ECU:

Each interior lamp contains a 3 way switch, allowing always on, always off, or automatic operation. When in the
always on position, the interior lamp is provided with a battery voltage feed from the CJB (central junction box) .
When in the automatic position, operation of the interior lamps is controlled by the anti-theft system module. The anti-
theft system module monitors the condition of the doors, including the tail door, through a series of switches. If any of
the doors are opened a ground path is created through the relevant switch. When the anti-theft system module
registers a ground path it illuminates the interior lamps. If the door(s) are subsequently closed, the anti-theft system
module will extinguish the interior lamps after a period of 15 seconds.
I don't imagine that the Td5 would be any different.

This suggestion assumes that it s the same set up as the 2009 model.

Have you checked the switch(es) at the light(s) to see if the purple and white wire(s) that run to the ECU are intact? There should be three wires attached to the switch: Purple/Brown from the battery, Black to earth and purple/white to the ECU.

    See attached wiring diagram.

If you have a rear interior light have you tried the auto setting on that?

Thanks for that - I have checked both lights - front and back - same result.

Will study this wiring diagram and take it from there, thanks again
