Can you just clarify what you need the cigarette lighter wires for first, depending on your need may vary our answers or point you in a new direction...

I've searched in vain for previous posts on the best/easiest way to access the wires for the cigar lighter.
I'm fitting a Uniden UH015SX, I've mounted the AE (front right wing) and I'm putting the unit under the drivers seat with the remote head underneath the drinks holder (which I've broken, trying to get in/have a look that way).
The wagon is a D2 2004 Diesel. The driver has the technical ability of a shaved chimp and is going mad.
Are the wires (CD changer?????) under the drivers seat any good for the UHF fit?

Sorry, I want to wire the the UHF into the cig lighter as the power source.
I just installed my UHF and was intending to do the same however.... My brother in law showed me how to splice the power an earth cables running from the amp under the dash and this is what we used. It was very simple and we had the unit installed fully functional and through the firewall for my aerial in about an hour or so. The lighter cables are tucked up quite tightly so all you need to do is find a live wire past the ignition and splice into that.
Also if I may... I installed my remote head unit with the main power unit and speaker under the dash and the head on top of the dash. I need to actually need to "fix" the unit under the dash to stop it moving while we 4wd but it's all good really. The remote head is screwed to the dash in the cutout about the radio etc and the cable slips in the little groove up beside the air con vents. When I mean it's under the dash, all it is is in the space where the panel under the steering wheel area flops down to do things like change fuses etc and it sits in that space. If you want some photos PM me your email address and I can send some pics. I have an 04 disco.

						Okay.... 3) options
1) you will need to remove the centre console... Not difficult just a pain in the arse.. then just splice a wire into the live cigarette feed and run it to your UHF.Then rebuild the car!!!
2) Just run a new (fused in line) wire straight through the fire wall and to your UHF. (Plenty of rubber grommets to push the wire through).
3) Find another live feed under the dash and splice into that....
After how you described yourself.... I would go for option 2. Should work out the quickest option!!! And you are not messing with anything else and if the UHF goes off line you know where/which fuse to look at....
Also if you are going to splice a wire...you gotta make sure its a solid join coz you dont want a live wire join breaking apart.. many a burnt out car to testify to that...

First off thanks for the advice and video/phot.
Here are the steps I went through and it was suprizingly easy....eventually.
Fitting a Uniden UH015SX into a D2 2004 Diesel
Basic positions:
· AE (6dBi) drivers side wing central on a Z bracket
· Unit under drivers seat
· Remote below cup holder
· Mic TBC
· Speaker TBC
· Power source cigar lighter
Method:
· Mounted the AE on the dvr side wing (no bull bar), unscrewed a coach bolt added a washer checked for clearance
· Found firewall grommet above accelerator peddle and removed
· Threaded fence wire from cab up and to the left, twisted and tapped coax to wire and pulled back through firewall
· Removed centre console – I thought this would be a hell of a job but turned out easy. The video was a great guide, thanks. It really is 8 screws and a spring clip
· Identified the +ve (yellow & green) and –ve (black), changed glass 3amp fuse after stuffing the polarity up
· Used proper cable joiners for the wiring
· Laid cabling into position, with radio pieces and tested instillation
· Listen to truckies swearing
· Refit centre console
Problems & Issues:
· Tested the UHF direct to the bty, had power light but had blank screen. Remove the back plate and bracket of the remote unit re-seat the wiring connection
· Don’t be put off at removing the centre console, it is quite easy
· Not entirely happy with main set position, may relocate TBC
· Mic and Hand set will be roughly where they now
· Take AE connector off to fit through fire wall leave it off until happy with all cable routeing
Nice job mate, instructions, pictures and humor! Well done! Loved the bit about truckies... Very true!
