Question Car Door Key Remote- Repair or Replace

    Hi All,

As they do, the rubber buttons on my 2004 D2a key have worn out and are now broken. Inevitably I had to keep using the key (as I dont have a spare) Now during this time the little "push button" switch (to unlock)thats soldered onto the remote circuit board has come loose and fallen off.

If the missus hadn't have lost this little switch I would have just soldered it back onto the board, bought some new button rubber skins and gotten on with life.

However I am now really struggling to find somewhere in Brisbane that will sell me a second hand key so that I can just take the swich I need. This way I can sidestep the whole $300 plus activity of buying a new key, having it cut and programmed to my vehicle.

Has anybody got an old key lying aroud that theyr'e willing to part with? Or can anybody give me a lead as to where else to go in Brissy for 1. the switch or 2. a 2nd hand key ?

    Any/all advice is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

You can buy brand new genuine keys from the UK for $151. (Postage ~$12)

Also check ebay. Would not waste my time buying a brand new key in Oz.

i had same problem 6 months ago, looked on ebay and found a seller in Hong Kong selling the empty OEM key fob with uncut key blade. Put your own remote pcb thingy inside and swap the key blades and bingo! new key. Cost US$15.00 delivered

    Thanks

Thanks for the helpful responses everyone. Sounds like a trip to Jaycar for a new switch is the go and should only cost me a fraction of the ridiculous price people were quoting to fix it for me.

    Cheers

Lucky for me I was able to catch this all happening and was able to solder the switch back in place some time ago. Replaced the rubbers and all good.

Move on another 8 years; Slightly different but I have just had a key die. Lucky I had another in the car so did a key unlock, alarm went off but was able to dive for the spare and disarm the alarm. Change of battery did not help. There is the most faint of glow from the LED in a very dark room on pushing the button but I expect that the electronics have given up. Has anyone been able to resuscitate a dead key like this?

I think you can buy the complete kit, ie covers and 2 micro switches from eBayuk, fairly reasonably priced
There is also a lot of used keys on there if you need a replacement, postage would be minimal as they do not weigh a lot
    Worth a thought?

Thanks again all! Visited Jaycar on the weekend, bought the smallest push button swich they had (only just bigger than the stock switch) and fine tipped solering iron for about $30! Now to grab a new set of rubber buttons from Ebay and sit back and enjoy the savings!
