But this one is from Land Rover themselves!
From the Land Rover Facebook page:
World first! We’re excited to introduce the Land Rover Defender Concept, DC100. For over 60 years Land Rover have been building vehicles renowned for their capability and versatility, perhaps none more so than the iconic Defender. With an eye to the future, Land Rover’s Design Director Gerry McGovern has led the Land Rover design team to explore a modern reinterpretation of the Defender, while capturing the adventurous spirit established by the Series 1 in 1948. Fast-forward to 2011, and Land Rover is extremely proud to share with our fans the potential future direction of the Defender, the DC100 Concept vehicle.
Not very Iconic...
At least they're having a go (unless it's just a cynical "We tried to save the defender" ploy).
3 Door Disco, homage to Series in the roofline, Freeo nose that's spent a few rounds with Danny Green. FUGLY front.
Retro Design 101: the nose MUST be reminiscint of the original. Fail
Toyota has done a much better job of recreating the 40. And that's not saying much.
Surely to Ged they can improve the Pedestrian impact rating through materials choice rather than melting the guards
My 2 cents with current rounding= 0
; )
Dave.
Here is the official link: Official Land Rover News & Information | Land Rover Media Centre. What is important is the text. Offically announced is that Land Rover will launch a new Defender in 2015. Personally, I wouldn't get too hung up on concept DC100.
Cheers

I'm thinking the DC100 is more of a D4 Sport concept
Windscreen is curved and has excessive slope - make it into a hothouse. Wheels are quite unsuitable for offroad - drive over that rocky surface at the speed Australians would typically take it at, and you would probably have four wrecked wheels.
But at least it does look as though it is possible. What I do not understand is why people are so hung up on appearance. Does it matter if it has to have a sloping nose? More important are the mechanical and structural details, hose out floors, wide range of body types, that sort of thing. Not to mention whether it has a decent dealer network!
That particular version I could not see selling very well in Australia - look at the sales of the 90, for example. Most sales in Australia would be the five door wagon for the recreation market, and if they are serious about reclaiming the work market, the one tonne trayback and dual cab trayback. Not the swb version.
