Bushranger are good...

Always place something thick (eg rubber) between the bag/ground and bag/chasis and be careful where you jack from.

Get a small tarp as extra protection.

Push it far underneath the chassis.

Usually needs someone to hold the intake to the exhaust.

Recommended generally, especially for sand driving.

Using one can be a bit of an art form.

To clean, first inflate.

Get the biggest size you can.

Get a bag for it too. Boxes are hopeless. I use a canvas bag.

You can use my mother-in-law...She has a tough hide but she might blow a foofoo valve if you fill her with too much gas..... 8O

Seriously though, I don't have one but the real critical thing is to use plenty of tough protection top and bottom to prevent punching a hole in it. I knew a bloke who used three layers of old carpet top and bottom. These doubled as floor mats when they weren't protecting the bull-bag.

The exhaust fittings can get very hot so it strongly recommended that if someone has to hold the thing, that they wear some sturdy heat proof gloves. Best option is to make a custom adaptor that uses hose clamps so no-one will get burnt.

A mate once owned a subi 4wd wagon,he had a "bullbag" brand exhaust jack.We got hopelessly bogged on a beach he should never of taken the subi on in the first place.

Local 4WD place has the Bushranger 4t (75 cm lift) at $245 which seems to be the cheapest "going price" plus won't cost me any extra in fuel [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

I checked with ARB and got a good laugh out of that... no wonder their shops are so big and shiny....

That's a reasonable price, go for it, but don't forget a carrybag. Given you have a Defender ute you're hardly pushed for space or payload, and if you ever need an exhaust jack, you'll be VERY glad you had one!

Fraser isn't particuarly difficult sand driving provided your pressures are correct, ie 17-19psi. I had a Zook when I was up there, the day after the little boy was killed by the dingoes. Several helicopters landed on the beach and a reporter came up to me and wanted a soundbite quote, which I refused.

Fraser is fantastic, but I wouldn't take my 2.5 year old daughter there. The dingoes are too aggressive, as are the very large goannas.

Watch for V8 LC100 owners in particular hooning along the beach. Also watch them nearly roll when they hit a washout :-)

Purchased a 4t Bushranger brand jack from ECB (East Coast Bullbars) at Clontarf, Qld.

I paid $230 cash and can't praise their service highly enough.

Price was for a boxed 'kit' including:
- the exhaust jack itself.
- 2 x protection mats
- set of gloves
- repair kit
- handy carry bag.
