Hi Stuart. Thanks for the info. How did you decide on where to get your RRS serviced? I'm aware that discos are not cheap to maintain. I'm in the western suburbs of Melbourne if you have any recommendations.

    Hey Brendan,

I just bought one with 190k km's and am having some transmission issues, which are being fixed by the dealer under stat warranty.

I did also buy a 3 year/Unlimited km $5000/claim warranty, for when the statutory ends in 3 months, but just be weary if you consider one. They don't cover "perishable" parts some of which I question such as suspension bushes, unlike a new car warranty. Although, if i was having the trans problems i'm having now, 3 months down the track, i'd be glad I paid for it....

    Just a thought.

Also pretty glad I bought from a dealer like you are at this point, as privately i'd be out of pocket $1400 and counting atm....

Is the difference between the 6 and 8 speed transmissions that significant?

Yep the 6 speed was always a great transmission for it's era. But it's a decade old now... I would have gone for the 8 if it was in budget.

6 different mechanics in 12 months basically! So far... I'm inner west Melbourne. PM me...

I don't know what other ppl would say but I dont think the maintenance costs are too bad compared to late model Volvos and Jeeps, for example.

So I ended up getting a brand new MY16.5 TDV6! My wife and I just weren't that keen on any vehicle with so many kms on it. We think we got a good deal, as LR is currently having an end of financial year special with free on-roads and they seem to be keen to clear out the D4 before the D5 arrives next year. We just have to wait a couple of weeks until it arrives via ship - it's an April 2016 build. Let me know if you'd like more details on the deal.
