Yeah - if you can find the company that'd be good. I have contacted 2 shipping companies, but neither of them use the High Cube containers.

Someone must do it, as people ship their UniMogs and you wouldn't get one of them into a standard height 20 footer!

    Davit lift; Vice; Wire baskets

Only got a couple of things small things done this weekend. I have been straining my back lifting things (mainly Defender tyres) up and down a wonky ladder from my mezanine storage area, so I thought I'd install an electric "davit" lift on a swing arm. Bent up the arm from some steel tube and made a couple of hinges to fix it to the shed. Bit of welding and it's a good'un. It can lift 100Kg so Defender tyres + rims are no worries.

Also installed a small vice to the rear of the tray and bent up some wire baskets to fit in the underside storage are. There are 4 baskets 1m long each which go the whole length of the underside of the canopy. These trays will hold heavy stuff that we don't need to use very often, like spare parts and oil and tools.

Am waiting for Capral Aluminium to come back from Xmas/NY holidays, so I can buy the ally beams to hold the roof on. When I get them I can measure up and cut the hole in the roof and make a big hinge for the front of the canopy to get the roof pivoting up and down.

    GREAT to see another build.

Our son in law took this pic in Darwin recently of an interesting 130. I don't know whose it is?.

    Will watch with great interest

Hi Erich - that TD5 130 you've pictured is the same type of build as mine, with the stretched "Extra" cab, which I think were all done for Telstra. They have extended the canopy way backwards, so the departure angle is not so high (and the rampover has been reduced with those side steps), but I reckon they'll be able to sleep inside that - which we can't do as ours is too short.

My build won't progress as fast as your PUMA build, but I am trying to do something every day to keep it moving along.

    Cheers

    Canopy has a roof hole!

Today's effort was mainly removing the existing roof of the canopy, so we can stand up inside it.

Cutting it was pretty straightforward except for the corners where it had a lot of reinforcing and my circular saw wouldn't cut through it, so I had to hit it with the power hacksaw. After an hour or so of cutting/grinding I was able to peel off the old roof and stand up in it. One more step along the way....

I did a test fit of the SIII roof, and tried fitting and sitting on our "bogger" which is a composting toilet used in boats. Mrs Spud was not going anywhere with me without her own facilities!

It feels a LOT more roomy now with the extra headroom.

Pipe bender - Started my Rock Sliders

I got my Pipe Bender set up and tested, so thought the first thing to do was begin my rock sliders by bending up a couple of "arms" which will protrude out from the side of the sliders.

The bender is an ingeniuos design. Simple but complicated! With only moderate force it bends tube very accurately. It has a protractor to show you how far you've gone, so getting 90 degree bends (or whatever) is a snap.

The bender ships from the USA with out a stand, so I just made one out of some old H beam I had lying around the farm. Same with the handle, just a piece of alloy I had.

The tube I am bending up is your standard issue "bullbar" size steel tubing the same as used by ARB or TJM. I've got some lengths of 34mm and 50mm diameter tube, which are identical to the tube on my bullbar.

I want the side bars to be at a bit of an angle, instead of sticking straight out, so I am cutting them at 20 degrees (downwards angle). I have seen a few where they are 45 degrees, but this is too much I reckon. The maths to do the cut is a bit tricky and I had to completely re-make one side when I cut one side much shorted than the other, but now I have "got it".

That's it for this weekend. Next on the list is to cut some short brackets to support the side runners on the sliders (3 per side), and to weld up the roof beams to support the roof properly. It's heading towards midnight so I am going to crash.

    Cheers
    David
