Computer Upgrades Syntek or Haltech Interceptor

I have a RRC 94 model with a 4.6 and R380. I am looking at either getting Syntek to tweak the engine management computer (14CUX), or fitting an Haltech Interceptor - WHich is the better way to go? and have their been reliability issues with either option? Ultimate relaiability is very important because of the use the vehicle is put to.

Still running standard 3.9 engine manangement and fuel injection set up.

    Thumbs up Haltech cipset

Had one fitted 2 years ago and never looked back. Had it tuned for low to mid range revs to increase response time on acceleration.

Still have to have the exhaust modified to enjoy the full benefit of it. Only one problem experienced so far. Dont get in to the engine with a high pressure cleaner near the box. It does not seem to be that watertight, but a bit of silicone around the edges does the trick

I had my haltech fitted when I bought 'Fluffy' (18 months ago), and initially it was superb. But I have changed the cars setup a lot since then and it needs to be tuned again.

I managed to connect the laptop to the car for the first time just this weekend past and after seeing the amount of adjustments that can be made/incorporated with the haltech ecu and software, I think it is bloody great!

I have a haltech interceptor - brilliant. It can be set so that it uses factory specs for starting i.e. helping maintain engine life and tweaked for performance once warm and to suit your particular motor. They come up on ebay so keep an eye out. To get the most out of it you should have your car on a dyno. There are a number of posts on this forum. Here are a couple.

Who has had a dyno run on their LR?

    Haltech Interceptor

    etc

If the Syntek is as claimed it would have to be superior to a "piggy back " like Haltech or Unichip which just fools the old ECU.

The Syntek is a complete replacement computer which is "plug and play" , with the most expensive version being tunable and having a timing map where the dizzy is locked.

If this had been available when I bought my Unichip , I would have certainly gone for the top Syntek. I do not know if there are any dyno operators who have the software, but for a "tinkerer" with a laptop it would be great.

If you had a wide band O2 sensor with readout you could do most of the fuel maps yourself but the timing maps would be time consuming and probably ultimately need some dyno time.

I think this looks to be an excellent product but only about 10 years too late!!!!
