    tyre tubes

i was wondering if the LR's have a problem with the rims cause i just had a tyre on the 130 fixed and when i went to pick it up they said they just replaced the tube . now i just want to know why there is a tube in a tubeless tyre. i asked the blokes in bob jane and was told it might just be the rim :? as the tyre was fine. can anyone clear this up for me as it has me bewilderd as to why you would run tubes if not needed.

    thanks

    G'day 130 Tdi,

My Defender 130 2000 model has "TUBED" stamped on rim, hence needs a tube. Later 130 came with tubeless rims.

if it has the steel split rims you need to run tubes as they cannot form an airtight seal due to the split ring.
    all split rims run tubes.

if it was an alloy rim and had a slow leak it is possible it is a porous rim.
not very common but does happen.

To run tubes legally you have to have JJ rims ie they have bead retention humps on both sides.
Rangie rims before about 1988 did not have these humps so it is illegal to have tubeless tyres.
I would think Defender was after this. Look on the rim stamp to see if JJ is mentioned.
Of course you CAN do it, but its illegal, and the valve hole is a different size, I cannot remember bigger or smaller.

most lr steel wheels need tubes. my 1998 defender needs tubes. i think you would be hard pressed to by a tyre that wasn't tubless. you just run tubes with them. the rims don't have a saftey beed to hold the tyre on (if run without tubes) when you get a flat. i don't think lr had a "split rim"

ok thanks for the info. it looks like the tubes should be there going by the replys. my next question is having never run tubes is what happens when i let the tyres down to drive offroad. am i going to pinch the tube and put a hole in it. or is there a minimum presure to run a tube at (how low is to low)

I have just ordered 7 Toyo LT235/85R16 120R and they get fitted on Tuesday. I will be asking this very question as the new tyres are tubeless but my Rims are AYG8108 TUBED ONLY.
Also I have read that talcum powder should be used with tubes and I will also ask this question.

Make sure they remove any paper stickers inside the tyres.
I had a friend with BFG ATs and tubes who lost all the tubes fretting on the paper stickers.
