Biggest problem is the model number is usually on the unit case behind the dash and the only way to see it is to remove the unit from the dash :roll: :roll:

As I said elsewhere - just remove the airvent grill on top of the dash and then lever the radio out of its slot - no keys needed and if you take your time no damage to the radio cradle. (if your lucky)

It also depends on the model. I went down the same path, emailed Eurovox, went to the dealer, and they said that all you need is a some lengths of stiff wire eg coathanger.

However, on my Defender, which had a radio with two holes, you actually need a narrow screwdriver. After I had lost patience and violently levered the thing out, I discovered that it was actually screwed in. The ones with four holes use the key (or wire).

Hi all,
Most of these radio's are Alpine or Eurovox based.
Drop into a radio installer and ask them to release it for you. Usually free of charge. (Takes them two mins or less). Once its out you can see how it works and make your own removal keys. Dead easy.
(particuarly if you have seen the keys the radio guy used)

The key for the Eurovox in the D2 is 2 bent bits of wire poked down the holes in the face of the unit. Jam them in, and then pull the head unit out.

Sort of. If you look closer they have a couple of barbs which lock into the radio chassis and enable you to pull it out of the panel fascia without having to pull on the radio face itself.
Granted, your way will get it out also.

When I was wiring up the CB I used power from the ciggie lighter, and I had to get there via the radio (I decided it was easier than removing the whole dash 8O ) . Mine is the type with 4 holes, and bending up a piece of fencing wire in a u shape did the trick as have been mentioned above [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img] Only trick is the wire has to be fairly thick to work or it doesn't disenguage the lock.
