    Tombraider,

One block from Mount Gambier Trident Tyre Centre (our local ARB w-shop ) made call somewhere to the ARB top store (or factory) while I was in the workshopshop. I did not ask for quote, just for curiosity.

Can go there tomorrow and get some contacts if you want.

    Cheers,
    Ruslan

I'm keen to see some close ups as well, it looks great. Ever since I saw a TDI wagon with solid lift up windows on both sides in a 4x4 mag stopped talking to a motorcycle in the desert somewhere I have wanted to do this conversion as a four door panel van.

I once had the side window out to replace a broken window & without the frame the remaining panel is like a wobble board, it would need a solid frame to keep it all together.

I have been thinking along the same lines but not for the same reasons. (Actually I'm cutting down a pair of County rear quarter panels to make an extra cab on a series truck cab.)

However what I did notice yesterday was one of those fibreglass/plastic ute canopies with windows in the sides, where the glass pane opened up like a tailgate. It had a lockable handle on the outside and gas struts to hold it open.

What is more the rubber mounted aluminium frame of the window was not all that different to the original frame in the County/Defender. I think I have seen similar on NRMA patrol utes, but not with the curved bottom corners.

Unfortunately as I drove past I was too late to see the brand.

Task for this next week - Look for plastic ute canopy with handles in the side and note brand.

I have them on my canopy.

I chased around the Country trying to find someone to do this for months.
I even made some contacts with a company in England which were happy to do it but the freight was more than the price of the window.
I originally wanted the same type of window that you find in the fibreglass canopies but found the issue is not access to the aluminium extrusion but finding someone capable to bend it and the ability to have the glass replaced.
A company in Adelaide (Still looking for the details) which originally I feel were reluctant but after some correspondence came up with the design. The only negative thing I could say is I feel the handles could be a little lower in profile and maybe black. I have not hit them on anything to date and I have had it for some 2 years. The fit is excellent and I fitted it in a couple of hours. Great attention was made to sealing etc These guys had done this thing before I reckon. The hinge is a piano hinge full length.

Yeah, they look really good, but I'm interested in aluminium, or similar, because I load up the rear, and I don't want to worry about windows being damaged by flying objects. Doors similar to the tool box openings on some of those Telstra vehicles would be ideal. I guess for me, the closest place to go is Townsville, but may be in Brisvegas next month, so if anyone knows a supplier down there, I'd be grateful for the information.
