Not familiar with the brand of bag you have purchased but...
For my polyairs, the top plate is about 4mm thick and bolted to the top of the rear turret with a bolt in each of the 4 corners. Not welded.
Hi guys,
My spring air bags have just arrived from the USA and I have a couple of questions regarding fitting them.
I know I will need to weld plates on the top of the spring turrets, but do these plates need to be counter sunk into the turret or can I just weld a plate to the top?
What thickness plate would best suit the job?
Does anybody have photos of installation to make things easier?
Thanks in advance
Mal

Sorry don't have experience with defender air bags.
On my disco, I didn't have to weld any plates on the spring perches. A thick moulded rubber piece fitted up from underneath.
Ok, you asked for pix...
with hose clamps retaining the top of the springs

Thank's guys,
Isuzu110. Can you see any problems with welding the plates to the top of the turrets other than the inability to remove them.
Did you have problems with your springs dislodging thus the clamps or is it just a precautionary move
Mal
I'm no expert but I thought we tried to avoid welding chassis/suspension components. I'm sure someone else will chime in who knows more.
I have had previous issues on my County with rear springs dislocating from the top and puncturing the sidewall of the tyre. The tyre pattern was no longer made so it was an expensive incident to then have to replace a full set of mud tyres. Hence the cheap and nasty precaution of twin hose clamps to try and stop it happening again on this vehicle.
