    Iain,

As discussed I suspect the baffling in your tank may not be the best and does not slow the the rush of fuel to the front of the tank when you go down hill - particularly as the filler is so far forward. As you have indicated some sort of one way valve in the long filler pipe (I think yours is reduced to about 2" dia) that allows fuel to flow in but not out might be the go - this might be a simple as a spring controlled flap.

Another alternative could be to run a rubber pipe from the filler hole in the actual tank to the rear wheel arch and put a filler there. That long pipe you currently have would not exist and the filler will always be higher than all sections of the tank even when going down steep hills.

Is the rubber seal under the cap intact and making a good seal?

What about the overflow pipe, hoses intact without holes and clamps tight?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I am not sure but I believe the answer you seek is to sell it to me W.A. is fairly flat thus solving the fuel escaping from the filler!!!
It's a burden but anything to help.
    Kind Regards Andy

Put a ping pong ball down the hole with a restrictor to stop it coming back out - that will stop the fuel coming out.

    Ian,
I would have to agree with Dianne on this one unless it's the breather vent. My rubber seals are both hard, cracked and crushed so I bought new ones.
If it's the breather, it might be easier to plug it (at least partially) to stop the fuel gushing or connecting a fuel filter on the end of a length of hose to the breather (filter inside the filler neck) to slow the rate of fuel through the breather.
You can test this is the case by temporarily plugging the breather the next time you descend the hill.

For those not in the in the know, Iains 101 has a non standard fuel tank mounted in the extreme rear of the vehicle as a gas tank is where the normal petrol tank was.
The petrol filler is in the standard position meaning there is a petrol filler pipe 3/4 the lenght of the vehicle at a alnost hozional plane.

I would have to agree with iain on this one lardy. dont want too many 101s here it will flood the market.

As the others have said it sounds like you need to fit a non return valve with having a filler pipe that long.
    Cheers gaz
