Yeah may should be right you will only slightly burn your ring off, starts cooling down by then.
Not a worry and also if you set plans up its certainly gives you a target to aim for.

Got myself a long reach socket set today so I can get my wheel nuts off at a whim!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1351700999.928124.jpg
I also recieve my remote oil filter mount, my oil cooler, inline oil pressure switch and v8 rover oil filter housing cap, boy things are going to get busy.

I bought all this gear from Merlin motorsports in the uk got it in five days
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1351726836.087695.jpgIt allows the oil filter to be placed on the chassis so as not to damage it, which as i plan to use the oil filter housing on the new engine a straight down rover one, it'll enable me to do that without smashing the oil filter on the axle under articulation
Thanks for that - I am building a 4.6 to go into my 101 and will most likely go with the 4.6 oil pump etc so the oil filter will hang down instead of up like the 101 3.5 engine. I was thinking about clearance but had not got around to asking the question online.
So your research has shown that the oil filter will hit the axles housing ????
I assume you buy it as a kit from Merlin - the kit containing a cover over the old oil filter housing, the remote mount and pipes to join them. What sort of price??
Thanks
Garry

It's 5/8 fit and I'll get the hoses made up as I prefer the security of plumbed in pipes, as for the oil filter housing - oil pump cover I will include a shot in this piece, including the oil cooler although I am not game to unpack that until its to be fitted as to protect it,here are the prices and part numbers:
M-oc25-10bsp mocal 25 row oil cooler 5/8bsp £134.55
M-rh8lr mocal remote filter head 1/2 bsp left-right £29.84
M-Tga-10bsp mocal temp gauge adapter 5/8 bsp £38.12
M-v8-cover mocal rover v8 oil pump cover £105.06
I'll have to refer back to your questions again as I can't see them on the iPhone at the moment so if I have not covered all your questions I'll post again.
With ref to your 4.6 are you not concerned the brakes will be under rated for the largest of the rover v8's ?

Have you taken all the external furniture off the old v8 engine yet?
I guessed you have noted that the remote gear lever needs to be cut and welded with a u shape in it to negotiate the plenham have you done yours yet mate?
Regards Andy.
Hi again Garry,
Yeah my understanding is that the 101 was designed with the oil filter in that format because the axle gives a crack to the oil filter in the normal position.
Have you any thoughts on tyres for your 101 and have got any quotes ?
Andy
Thanks for the information - not a cheap modification but one probably worth while.
A larger engine in a 101 makes it cruise a little better and importantly climb hills but only marginal increases top speed. 101 brakes in good condition are up to the task but do have to be kept in good condition - the issue like all series vehicles is not so much braking power but erratic braking - also remember a GS weighs a lot less than your box.
My 3.5 is still in the 101 and running so will not come out until the new engine is built and ready to go in.
Modifying the gear lever is only required if you go a Gems injection system. The mods are not needed if I stay with carbs or go Thor injection. I haven't decided as yet - I obviously have the carbs and do have a Gems system and access to a Thor. Decisions I have yet to make.
I already have new BFG muddies so will be staying with them.
Cheers
Garry
