I've got an aftermarket VDO speedo. I fit a TD5 Speedo sensor in the lt230 and wire it in to the Speedo then when I first use the vehicle I press and hold the mode button and drive it a measured mile, press the button and Viola! Calibrated to my gearing

The other issue with GPS Speedo's is cloud cover which will knock down the number of satellites available to measure ground speed.

I use an Android app on an old phone when im teaching my kids to drive and on a cloudy day they can be way off accurate.

Mechanical or electronic coupled speedo's are the way to go.
