    Overdrive Bits - Spares

My 101 has an overdrive fitted ans seems to be running quite well.

The problem with having the O/d fitted is that it is being used even when not in O/d so if the O/d plays up you do not go anywhere so it is smart to carry the bits that came out of the tfr case when the O/d was fitted so that they can go back in if there is a failure.

Am going away on a trip and want to take these bits with me but I cannot remember what I need .

I have the circular backing plate and brand new needle bearings that go in it but that is it. I sort of remember that there is supposed to be a cog as well but I do not have it stored with the backing plate for some reason.

I do have a collection of tfr case gears and I suspect I put the required cog in with these without tagging it. The circlip that hold this cog on is used with the overdrive - I think - can someone confirm.

So can someone describe the cog I need to carry with me - number of teeth or diameter would be a great help.

    Thanks

    Garry.

    Hi Garry.
I carry that stuff in the rear side locker of my 101..........I will drag it all out if you want.
All I think is needed is one gear, washer a C clip and the blanking plate to cover the hole.
I carry with the original gear and parts a special pair of pliers.......spread open type as it not a normal C clip that is needed to be refitted.

Thanks Ron - the gear has me worried as I cannot remember what size it is and what it looks like.

Thanks Ron - I just got back from the trip - I will check my stuff and put the kit together.

All up I did 2500km going up from Canberra up through northern central NSW to the Qld border and back. Most of that distance was with the 101 in overdrive. The trip reinforced my view that the o/d works best not at 100kph where the engine has trouble pulling it but at the other end of the scale on outback tracks doing 50kph or less with the engine at 1000rpm in 4th O/d and the vacuum gauge in the green - great fuel consumption of under 19.5l/100. As long at the hills are not big or long, the torque of the engine makes the 101 just purr along.

While the O/d did great service it does need double shuffling when changing down so I wouldn't mind replacing its bearings and synchros at some time if parts were available.
