G'day all. I was wondering if it wa possible build your own 101in Austraia. I've read abouta few projects around the world. Thought it might be something I'd liketo try.

I think the time spent accumulating all the parts, building it and then going thru the rigmarole of deciding its I.D, and then the pits etc etc would outweigh buying one locally and doing a full resto. Choose wisely and you'd have a complete vehicle with local rego and everything to do a ground up resto! Can't wait to see Stuee's when done!! That's a good thread to follow if you want an idea of what's involved!![]()

Although I think you may be right Simon, it would still be a cool build. Just have to tick off the Engineering, and it can be done. A series 3 as a donor is the right age, but that would be a 109 unless the chassis was shortened. An RRC gives you coil springs and a 100" wheel base, which would also make a great unit. A forward control on a coil spring chassis... Mmmmm.... Coil springs......![]()

Yes indeed Gav.
I'd forget about the 101 idea. There's plenty about.
Now, a coiled FC. That has merit.
On a 100" chassis, interesting. I'd put it on a 110" chassis. You are setting it up as a camper, right?
Better still, build it on a Perentie 6x6 chassis. There are bound to be a few suitable wrecks coming up in the near future.

As nice and desirable as it is, it is still a 101.
If crusty62 wants a 101, he could do worse than that one.
But,
I gather he wants to build one from scratch. Why limit yourself to a 101?
I quite like the idea of a FC on a Perentie 6x6 chassis. Maybe with a twin turbo V8 diesel.
Hi Mick.
I dont have the twin turbo,s on mine and its a 6.2.
I have had no trouble from the engine but built it pre-internet so I hadnt read all the forum posts that say what a dog the 6.2 is.
Now I am worried
If I did it again it would be Isuzu or Cummins.

There was an unfinished project for sale in WA a few years ago, with rangy chassis converted to forward control with Nissan patrol diesel and gearbox and a cab made from OKA drawings. I didn't have The funds at the time but was tempted. Think he ended up selling all the bits separately. Would have been an awesome unit if completed.
