Hi all,
Spotted this diesel 101 towing a car trailer in Yea this afternoon. Looked pretty neat and quick!

It is. Mick is a Mechanic and when I asked him how hard the conversion was, he said 'bloody hard - don't do it.'
The results are very good though - it is his daily driver. It has power steering too, like AJ's so easy to live with.

I'd love to know why it was 'hard'.. The Cummins wasn't hard, it was time consuming, and its twice the size of a TD5.. I'd love to see some pics...

It's fly by wire I believe, so that and the computer could be fun
It was something along the lines of everything needed modifying - nothing would quite fit without making new parts or modifying existing parts. It was anything but a bolt in conversion by the sounds of it.

I can see how a lot of fettling to make things fit would be needed, main thought would be having to reposition the turbo some, but I'd say the job would be more awkward than anything else.
Having had a Td5 defender in bits to do a chassis swop I must admit I was surprised how simple it worked out to be.
If I was putting one in a 101 then a complete engine and box, radiator/intercooler etc along with the complete Defender vehicle wiring loom (everything is integrated) would be an ideal way to do it, and bring all the wiring etc right up to date.
Start with a 110 loom and you should be able to make it all fit the 101 with minimal cutting and joining of wires.
Worst parts of the job would be getting the Td5 in tank pump into the 101 tank (a bit of cutting and welding really) and getting the engine/turbo positioned to clear the chassis.
I've almost talked myself into the idea again...
You've almost talked me into it now!
