That raises some interesting possibilities - do you know what the is thread on Series 1 & 2 steering tie rod ends. ???? 5/8" and could they be used to make up a track rod for one of my SIIBs?

No, I don't know. Get a cheap plastic vernier caliper that reads in fractions, and a set of screw pitch gauges and measure them. Tie rod ends are commonly 11/16". Most later LR's, & RR's, have 11/16" 16tpi LH & RH tie rod ends. 11/16" x20 are sometimes seen on other vehicles and 11/16" x 18tpi were used on GM & Ford vehicles & others for decades. Steering rods are easy to make.

    Thanks Brian

I have a good quality Vernier (tool steel) and sets of metric and imperial pitch gauges but have never bothered to measure a tie rod.

My reluctance is the cost of a 11/16" LH thread tap (I probably have an 11/16" RH BSF tap) when it will only ever make up two steering rods.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
