    What would you choose?

    OKA or Unimog?
If you were thinking about a smallish truck for camper which would you pick and why?
    Just thinking this stage but..

    depends on what you value.

it also depends on which oka and which mog.

if you're talking the only the ex military ones in the ex military configuration.

the oka. its cheaper on cost, parts fuel tyres, and its easier to convert to full through cab configuration. also climbing up and down into it its a lot closer to the ground they are also not so high as a mog.

the mog however will get you anywhere and has a better payload. Especially if you get a 1750.

The mogs generally appear to be more reliable BUT... only if you consider breakdown over time per unit as compared to breakdown over distance per unit. That said, well looked after the mog will outlast the oka over time and distance for the same workload because "overkill"

The okas are faster on the road the mogs better off the hard track

Personally, I was always more comfortable in the mog seat than the oka.

If its just Oz travel, then the OKA... If you're going further afield, then its the Mog. A Mog with a sealed lockable secure box on the back is a serious off road tool.. The only reason I was set on a cab over Merc is because its what I know, and have done a lot of traveling with in Africa. Easy to fix, simple, reliable, and reasonably fast. That said, mine could do with another gear, but it is not struggling at 90.
The OKA's are certainly different, but for a late Cummins powered one they seem to fetch big bucks.. Not sure what parts availability would be like overseas either...

    Thanks Dave that's good info.
Re the seating: was that because of the seat itself or the general driving position?

I would be looking at an ex ADF mog with the plan to fit a slide on unit, as I would also the OKA.
Cab through access has a lot of appeal for obvious reasons, yet the detachable unit appeals to enable campsite retention while having a look around the area.
It's not like a Mog or OKA are any easier to sight see in loaded or unloaded😜

I've come across an OKA that is in need of a lot of attention, which isn't outside my capabilities, but am not sure ii would be smarter to buy and build to suit over time now as finances allow or wait and buy a more suitable or "that's what I want" later and save the coin till then.
Spend little bits at a time or save spend in one go is still spending.

The parts for the OKA were a concern to me too.
An assumption I made/am making, has parts for the Mog probably more readily available over the foreseeable future.?

The problem with these things is the plan can morph from expanding current traveling practices into bigger opportunities or finding you don't take maximum advantage of your situation and have overkill for a vehicle i.e. Mog or not quite big enough for the new plans i.e. OKA..

I blame Spudboy and Sitec anyway for this.😜
I deliberately didn't go into Spudboys truck when he came to Alice because I knew this would start something.🤔
Googling rear options for the 130 just brought up more truck bodies which hasn't helped.

Just a little teasing pic as to why you should have a truck then... Space... Lots of it.. It was this company that got me hooked! Travel, trucks and freedom. Quietly miss the Overlanding life, and live in the hopes that I can relive some of that life with Wifetec! Hence the truck purchase.

Any more thoughts on trucks? Dependant on how far off road you plan to go, a 4x2 Cab Chassis will get most places.... All the trucks I drove in Africa were 4x2's or 6x4's.
