Thread: rivets - correct ones for the body

You should be able to buy rivets at any GOOD hardware store. I used aluminiums one on my county when I converted it to an Extra Cab. This was so I didn't get corrosion in the ally body due to indifferent metals. There are "water proof" or "water resistant" rivets. They go in the same way and you don't need a special tool, just a good pop rivet gun. They are sealed at the blind end. Most are open and you can see the other end of the pin,
these you cannot therefore don't let the water in. In theory anyway.

Not 100% sure, but I reckon 3mm x 8mm would do the trick. Why not buy a selection. That way you'll get some to fit. They're cheap as chips and always come in handy.

I've done a couple on mine and it's just a case of ratting through the tray for the right size.

The ones I have used are Able Cooke TA 6-4 sealed aluminium rivets. These are 4.8mm diameter (3/16") and to rivet thickness 4.8 - 6.4mm. In some places the next size shorter may be neater, but the longer ones will work perfectly well.

These should be available from any decent hardware store or from specialist fastener suppliers, although probably only in packs of 100.
