Thread: Fitting deadlocks on the doors

Firstly you'll have some difficulty finding deadlocks that are ADR approved.

After that if people see deadlocks, they'll think that you have something worth stealing and they'll simply go for the glass.

So before you go to the trouble, play it safe, keep everything of value out of sight. Next consider mesh security screens on the rear windows and doors as well as a cargo barrier, which is good for occupant protection in a crash as well as making relatively secure cage in the back for valuables. After that you could consider a deadlock on the rear door.

Addit: If you have a defender with glass held in by "key rubber" seals. Remove the glass and turn the seal around so that the "key" is on the inside of the vehicle. That way they can't pull out the key to remove the glass without the smashing sound. This was a particular problem in the days of the Series vehicles.

I looked into this for an overland vehicle, and there are a few variations of the same theme. Most are designed as back door locks for tradies vans to keep their tools a little safer.

I've seen these ones posted on a UK forum, still have to find a retailer. Though I would imagine that it wouldn't be so difficult to get a few of these cut out locally.



Regardless of the type of door hasp you use, they need to be used with a shutter lock, to prevent anyone getting a bolt cutters to the shank.



There's also a deadlock type thing, though I would imagine it would take quite a bit more cutting to install them.

At the end of the day though, if they want to get in, they will.

A few years ago, at KLR Automotive, I saw a Stage 1 Landy with Yale locks fitted.

Thanks for the input guys. The Overland Hardware product does look substantial and I'll look into this. Still hoping for something that fits within the door of course.

As to the general comments, I appreciate that security is only as good as the weakest link and all the other aspects - immobilisers, window guards, etc. need to be set up to an equivalent level.
