    Ex-Defence Force Defender

    Hi all,

I noticed an ex defense force defender for sale on one of the online sites at the moment. Do they have mods that would make them any different to a normal Defender?

I will try to find the link again if that will help. http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Automo...=true&AdOnTop=

    Cheers

Highly suss as an ex army unit, although the seller doesn't claim it to be. Not to spec by any stretch of the imagination, not even the bullbar & if the Army wanted to evaluate a dual cab with seperate canopy, they would have converted one of thier own.
There are others on here who can fill in the details, but I bet its made up of bits & pieces. Klm are suss too...I'd be wanting service books or previous ownership details.

    Hi All

Juddy i hate to contradict you but i would have written that they weren't sold in any numbers . As someone who can remember the eighties i know they made and sold at least five in the mid to late eighties - from memory they were a special order from the government and they used them to tow 5th wheelers and if my memory is in any way correct I think that they were the travelling displays for the bicentenary so that would make them 1987 or 1988 models and v8 petrols. I

I'm sure there are huge gaps and inaccuracies in my memories that other members may be able to fill in

    Regards Mark

Chassis does not look gal. However there is a TAC sign holder.

The military have used a few civvie-spec landies for some purposes.

Some of the bits look like the Army Defenders they bought in about 02, and although I have seen a prototype that was a TDi, the production ones were TD5 and did not have a galvanised chassis. There is an article on remlr.com. In fact the hardtop prototype in the article looks like it has the same bar, tac sign holders, winch, roof rack and snorkel even though some of these were different on the production version.

Looks like one of the td5 110s the ADF and rover trialed as a possible perentie replacement. Quite a bit of effort was put in to these while rover owned by BMW. However, I am no expert and don't know if this vehicle is one of the trial vehicles. I hadn't heard of a 110 dual cab td5.

Brush bar doesn't look right and no blackout lights ever fitted.
