    Before I bought my '85 County V8 I did the maths... the $10K premium I would have had to pay at the time for an Isuzu (which I would have loved to have) or the $12K premium for a Tdi buys an awful lot of fuel.

    On LPG I use twice as much fuel as I would with a diesel motor, but as it is less than half price it costs me less overall.

    Naturally for heavy work, towing, water crossings and long distance outback trips the V8 is nowhere near as good as a diesel. But as it's my everyday vehicle most of my driving is city stuff.

    Horses for courses, but the anachronistic V8 does have its place.
