    Puma Mudflaps

Has anyone had any trouble with Puma rear mudflaps?
They seem to be made out of a very tough material, which doesn't bend easily. In soft sand for instance, they are bent towards the rear of the vehicle & eventually tear out of the aluminium panel behind the rear wheels.
I am thinking of cutting them horizontally across near the metal bracket & fitting a piece of insertion rubber as a sort of hinge so the can bend more easily.

    Anyone got any other ideas?

Got to get a set of front one's,i suppose they are made from the same material as well?

    Any thoughts would be helpful.

I am sure I have seen a post somewhere on here about getting some thick insertion(?) rubber from Clark Rubber for the front so I guess you could do the same to replace the back.

Our rear ones seem to be ok, but the front ones, seem to bend towards the rear. more so than our older 130 we had, they look the same as the older ones too, but maybe there using a different rubber compound???

I have done about 11,000 km with my Puma mudflaps (front and rear)including several hundred km in sand dune country and have had no problems. I thought mine were hung from steel brackets not aluminium.

Brackets are steel, but,as per my post, they are attatched to the aluminium panel beind the rear wheels which is where they break away from eventually.

The mud flaps have steel brackets I just fitted both front and rear original LR units. I think he means the aluminium rear quarter panel that the bracket is bolted to. I have had to reinforce the fold in my quarter panel because of bending them when dropping off ledges/rocks and hitting the flaps which is why I fitted the Mulgo rear end bumperettes. Great product which has definitely helped prevent it happening more frequently.

OK, I drive a Puma 90, so my rear mudflaps are attached to the rear cross member. Just my blinkered view of the world through rose coloured glasses, then. Still nobody mentioned any wheel base lengths except 130!

Hmm ... not sure how that happened. How do you delete a post?

I also drive a Puma 90 and compared to previous 90's (300 Tdi) the mudflaps on this one is of a very stiff rubber compound. If you've done some mainroad driving at speed they seem to be bent into a bit of a curve by the wind. Back to normal next morning though.

As KarlB said though, attached to steel bits on the 90, so no pains with alu damage.
