Have you thought of looking at a Superwinch??? My father has the 9000lb version on his county and out performs the 9000lb warn although the line speed is a little slower.

For all the reasons above, I also have the XDC on the "new" ARB Defender bar.

    Less current, thermal cut-out etc.

Anyone care to tell me the cost of these winches ?

Which are suitable for plasma rope ?

I was thinking of getting one with wire rope but would like the option of switching to plasma later but obviously the way the winch is braked will affect this ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

They should all take plastic rope. You just need to have an fairlead/hawse rather than the rollers.

    My prices 14th July 2010
    XDC winch $1926.36
    Winch install kit $244.55

    Dynamica rope 8mm x 35m $424.55
    Aluminium hawse $110.91

I think the plasma brand rope was a bit cheaper.

I got similar prices from ARB recently & that is why I went the Tigerz11 12000lb unit with al hawse, dynamica rope with 6.6hp motor for $845 delivered....I know they are not US (they are Chinese) but they do have Aust support. Just my 2c worth.

Ranga did the same.. and had to mod his bar slightly. I don;t think (but would be happy to be wrong0 this winch fits an ARB winch bar with out some chopping (which I;d prefer not to do).

Also I;m still not convinced about the dyneema/plasma ropey stuff.

Oh and you can get the rope cheaper from ships chandlers etc than from a 4wd place ! MUCH cheaper ! Often comes in long rolls so good option may be a group buy.
