Extended warranty for Defender - get in quick???

When I bought my extra 3 year warranty, there were 2 policies on offer. Every dealer would offer one or the other. I bought my car from a particular dealer who sold the National Warranty Company policy. Another Qld dealer sold the Allianze warranty.

I preferred the Allianze warranty - and bought that. What I know about this policy is this....

1) It states that it covers, for 3 years or 100,000km, whichever comes first, everything that the original factory warranty covered.

2) The LR specialist that services my vehicle has told me that they have never had a claim, under the policy I have, knocked back by Allianze that they considered legitimate.

Now - wether or not LR backs the policy I have - I'm now unsure. I gather from your message, that they don't. However - there are many threads on this website that have indicated satisfaction from the actual policy I hold.

As far as I can see - if a 3 year warranty covers everything that the factory warranty did - then , for all intents and purposes, it is an extension of the factory warranty. :)

If you own a Defender then probably not as it is NOT covered by the "LR ASSURED EXTENDED WARRANTY".

Let me try again:D

LR as of last week or so have just released its factory LR ASSURED EXTENDED WARRANTY.
Anything before this was either an Allianz, National Warranties Network, All States Warranty &/or any other insurer that was offering ant type of insurance/warranty policy.

The LR one is underwritten by Allianz anyway, so is very similar to the original offered by Allianz.

The policy you have IS a good one, to date we have had no problems either with Allianz as they have paid for whatever is needed when we have had to make a claim. You also get an extra year if you dont travel the K's as it is still until 200,000km's. So yours covers you for 6 Yrs / 200,000km's.
The LR one covers you for 5 Yrs / 200,000km's.

It doesnt really make any difference whether LR back the policy as it is Allianz who pay the claims.

It just means that if is sold as the LR one it will/may be loaded onto the LR computer so we know the client has an extended warranty, otherwise we rely on the owner to advise us.
The LR one also extends the road side assist to which ever length you choose, not sure of the Allianz version.
The LR one is also transferrable again not sure of the other.

As with all things it pays when spending money to read the fine print & PDS brochures.

Thanks sniegy :) - regarding the transferability and roadside assist...

1) My policy is transferable with no fee to do so - when I bought the policy, the alternative cover had a $200.00 charge to transfer.

2) The policy offers towing/accommodation benefits - these are not the same as the genuine LRA assist. Interestingly, my dealer was pushing their NWC policy as having the assist - but it didn't include recovery from the middle of the Gibson desert, for example - in other words - it wasn't an extension of the genuine LR assist.

I have been advised that I can renew my genuine LR assist, up until the vehicle is 10 years old, on a yearly basis. I intend to do that too. It is currently $140.00 for the exact cover as offered with a new vehicle.

I got a quote on the Allianz policy today for my 110. Cost is a smidge over $2500 for 3yrs / 75000km. Warrenty is transferrable for a $75 fee.

The dealer mentioned that LRA now has a extended warranty available, but that it specifically EXCLUDES Defenders.....

I received an unsolicited phone call from Land Rover Australia today advising that I could arrange extended warranty through my dealer!

The warranty will be 2 years and roadside assist can be purchased seperately even if the warranty offer wasn't taken up.

I did say to the lady from LRA that there was some confusion amongst our ranks as to whether the Defender was still eligible.

It will be interesting to hear what the Dealer has to say.

I spoke to LR Direct today ( Athena ). They are not offering extended warranty in any form on the defender. Reason : it is classed as a commercial vehicle and Allianz will not back end them , so they wont offer it. I pushed her for a more valid reason and complained and whinged abotu how terrible thisis and a real kick minthe face to LR owners , Blah Blah etc etc. No avail. Just not happpening.

This after speaking to MLR and ULR and them both confirming the same thing.

Id suggest the alianz ones are just that Allianz backed and not LR factory backed. If they cover the same things , then great. The MLR service manager felt they wouldnt and that I should read the fine print before reading.

Either way , its something we all take on as a risk when driving any car after a warranty period and it sounds like in this instance it cant be avoided.

What a get out clause....they should just be honest as they already HAVE given extended warranty on Pumas why have they now only suddenly become commercial.
