Save the cash and find a good mechanic who can work with you properly and give your vehicle the respect it deserves...
couldnt agree more , its just those horror stories that tend to scare you into submission!
Unfortunately I didn't see 'Scallops' timely warning in Aug 2010 to Puma owners that the extended warranty offered through LR dealers was about to be dropped.
Having just travelled down to Perth from the Pilbara and with my factory warranty due to run out in May 2011, I was surprised to be told by the dealer that the Land Rover Assured (Allianz underwritten) Extended Warranty was not applicable to Defenders.....even though the LR promotional leaflets on display made no mention of this exclusion.
A further surprise was to be told that the earlier/original direct Allianz extended warranty available through dealers had also been discontinued for Defenders.
Having read through this Forum string and with 'Scallops' assistance, a quick call to the helpful Luke at the Toowoomba LR dealer confirmed that the direct Allianz extended warranty for Defenders was withdrawn by Allianz in the latter part of 2010.
The Perth LR dealer is offering extended warranty (on commission) with National Warranty Company [NWC]. Unlike Allianz who effectively covered what the factory warranty covered, NWC have many exclusions, including the complete suspension and everything made of rubber.
The big worry however is that NWC describe their "Extension to Manufacturer's Warranty" as a "Discretionary Risk Product....this means that you are entitled to have your claim for assistance heard, but that NWC is not obliged to pay all claims that come within the terms and conditions of the Warranty."
This sounds a bit like a Clayton's Warranty! Be all right if the premium payment was discretionary too. Has anyone had any claims experience with NWC?
Cheers,

...being a Defender owner certainly keeps life interesting :)
Could not agree more. I will only get them to change the oils and filters so I don't get the mess, then I will check on the job they have done, and do the rest myself. The ninety came home a couple of weeks ago after having all fluids changed, wallet a few hundred dollers lighter, to leak gear oil over my brick pathed carport. Some dick head at the dealers hadn't eaten his weetbix that morning and had forgoten to nip up the drain plug. On the 110 I have nine months warrenty left until repairs are my problem, I have a huge fishing trip to the Kimberleys before then and if it lets me down **** will hit the fan. The SVX has thus far only done 22000km, in that time its had:- clutch replaced twice, clutch master cyl replaced, water expansion tank replaced, gearbox replaced, vacum pump replaced, ecu update, bump steer addressed, transmission chatter, gear change difficulties, exterior mirrors loose, rust to door hinge bolts, bonnet unable to open, ign. switch replaced, alarm not disarming, strange induction noise, gear lever rattle, oil leak in trans, vibration, propshaft replacement, dust entry, door check straps not working. Much of this list should have been picked up at service. On the other hand I bought the ninety with 50000km on the clock and other than mods I have wanted to do it has cost me little more than an oil change. I had a 300TDI prior to these and cannot remember it ever letting me down. I hope the Puma settles down to be as good as the TD5 when it no longer has to spend time in the dealer network.

If Allan's litany of Defender warranty issues is typical it may go somewhat to explaining why Allianz no longer provides extended warranty for Defenders!
National Warranty Company currently seems to be the only game in town if you are a Defender owner interested in extended warranty;
my question is whether any Land Rover owners have had any warranty claims experience with NWC....good or bad??
