Extended warranty for Defender - get in quick???

That's true - but I am balancing that with all the hassles people have had whilst still under genuine LR warranty, of getting LR to actually admit a warranty issue.

Poor old Lou had more hassles than you can poke a stick at with her engine, and PovMan is having problems (although his may be 'ARB induced').

I was well impressed with the warranty on my L322 Rangie, but lots of people here have made comments about LR refusing warranty for various reasons. Makes me a bit hestitant to plonk down $2.4K, that's all.

Well - the LR specialist here in Qld (MR automotive) can do all the warranty work with the policy I have - so firstly, you don't need to deal with LRA if you choose, and secondly - MR tell me they have never had any claim knocked back that they considered legitimate. :)

OK - I didn't know that. I assumed that warranty work had to be done by the dealer.

To me a manufactures warranty
starts inclusive at the front bumper and finishes at the back bumper and covers everything in between. Importantly the manufacture is directly responsible for the warranty.

Other warranty.
IS NOT given by the MANUFACTURER. It may well be sold by a dealer and supported by LR but LR is not giving the warranty. Also importantly while it may cover bumper to bumper there are exceptions.

This is no different to the old Holden Q dealer extended warranties in principal. Written by and insurance company not Holden or in this case LR.

It's up to everyone who is a potential buyer of this type of product to research the policy and make their own decision on the merits of what is offered.

I made my decision based on the product disclosure and the general comments made to me by the people who service my vehicle, who have experience with this policy in terms of making claims, and who will be authorized to act on this policy, should I require big ticket items - such as a 2nd gearbox, clutch or transfer case, for example. I have every confidence that such items will be covered - and my policy honored.

I have the Allianz policy and basically it states that it covers everything usually covered under the manufacturer's original warranty. I figure with the wealth of documentation of all my previous warranty repairs, and those others here have had, there is hardly anything that they could argue isn't covered by the original warranty (except floor mats it seems).

True - and as distinct from the competing policy offered by some dealerships which won't cover any interior items, for example.

Thanks Dan, I just purchased the extended warranty from Luke and it saved me a huge $1201.66 for the same insurance policy a WA dealer tried to rip me of with, I even quoted Luke's price back to the WA dealer only to hear the guy get angry and say that cant be the same policy, I' am getting fooled... its funny how the people who try to do the fooling always tell you your getting fooled by someone else mmmm yeah right.. Just to advise & clear up a little confusion, we are talking 2 DIFFERENT types of warranty cover.

Albeit both covers being underwritten by Allianz.

The ones that have been offered prior to LR getting on board & the one now that LR backs.

The 3 Year deal is NOT a factory extension one, But Allianz is still offereing.

The dealer is right in saying that the Defender is not covered. They may not sell any aftermarket warranties & only offer the LR one, which the Defender is NOT covered.
We (MLR) have not sold aftermarket extended warranties for years due to the hassles of the past, will pay then wont pay etc etc..

We now do sell & recommend this "Warranty" as it is backed by LR & as a dealer we must obey:p

So there are still 2 Allianz covers available.
One has the blessing of LR & the other which is similar still being by various dealers.
All in all we now have an extension to the warranty, something that has finally arrived & giving peice of mind to various owners.

OK, so Allianz is offering two types of cover.
The one backed by LR is presumably the one we want?
How do I know which one the dealer is going to offer me? Does the policy have a specific name?
