Thanks Dan, spoke to Gove Motors this morning and they are arranging a replacement barrel from LR. Neither of us are sure if this means an entire lock set or not. We both suspect it does though. Anyway they are in touch with LR and it's not a difficult fix once the part(s) arrive.

On the health side there's not much improvement today. Just got back from the Doctor's and have a change in medication (read additional pills) to take over the weekend. Just have to sit, relax and do nothing.

Hi Derek, Here's our very best wishes to you for an improvement in your condition. The Landy comes second...

Will give you a call over the weekend when we return home from the South Coast. In the meantime relax and do what the Doc advises.

All the very best to you both,
    Erich & Sheila

When I had my ignition barrel(s) replaced I gave LR my spare key so the new barrel(s) could be "key'd" to be the same as the original.

hope your feeling better Derek,as previously mentioned the garage can build the barrel to your original key so you won't have to have a 'jailers' key ring

    Dicky ignition switches

Had an issue where the ignition would stay at on after a start. Whip the dash out (4 phillips) and pull, wiggle and roll the dash out of the way (leave cables connected).

The ignition switch unit sits on top of the steering column. On my TD5 130 the back of the switch had the white plastic insert with all the terminals had worked its way loose from the 'crimping tabs'. I was able to reset two of the tabs and it all work well for a while.

Eventually I has to take the whole unit out, which is a pain because of the security bolts (shear variety) that hold the switch to the steering column. Two minutes with a dremel to create screwdriver slots and I was in business to take the switch out a sort it good and proper.

Even if the fault isn't like mine, this would give you a chance to take the lock off the ignition switch and provide a jury rig to get going again.

    Hi Derek,

Sorry to hear that your'e not well.

I had a similar prob with my Puma (not being able to turn the key) and I remembered from somewhere that the puma has a "locking mechanism" in the barrel to stop you turning the key to start when the engine is already running and hurting the starter motor. I ended up disconnecting the battery, everything "reset" and it was all good.

Sorry that I'm a bit late with the info. Get well soon

Thanks Craig, I'll pass that on but I suspect it's not the case. The barrel has been sticky for most of this year and some lubrication worked before so I think it has been slowly failing.

Health is improving, had a good check up this morning and hope to be back at work Wednesday

Good to hear you on the mend, are you still in Gove? I've moved up from Broome to Darwin. Was in Gove on Sunday, had to fly a mob of locals up from Numbalwar.
