Well, after some serious consideration of everything that is on the used car market today, it would appear that the trusty old 130 ticks most of the boxes. It is big, has a big tray, and has a big cab. All of these things seem to make it the perfect family hack. We (the wife and I) are going to be going back to one car (ie. sell the disco and Mazda 2) and need a car that can do it all. I think from all that I have read and searched the TD5 seems to be the go. So what I am asking really is, what are your opinions on these and does the missus like driving it. This will be a daily hack and as such, will be well looked after. So not massively worried about the "problems" with TD5s. I just cant bring myself to buy a 3L Pootrol, or a thirsty Cruiser. I am definitely not going to go and buy a hilux or nivara. In my opinion, these are not 4WDs (ie. independent front end). Looking forward to the responses.
Cheers Klappers

weve just gone through the same senario ...had a 60 series cruiser and falcon ute ...... have just brought a 96 dc ,, use to have a jeep dc and mrs hated it ,,,, she says defender not as bad .... hopefully will grow on her... ,,,,,, love the pic of white dc with canopy ,, looks nice set up ,, ours is a flat tray and looking at canopy ideas as we intent to do fair bit of touring ,,,,, cheers moe
Mine ticks all the boxes (I don't have an ergonomics box). They are still capable in tough offroad conditions at full load, something that can't be said for it's competitors. I've found it to be a fantastic tourer (300 Tdi).
Hey Klappers, show this ideas to your other half, she would like the idea
There are heaps of more ideas HERE

Not at all, only time it struggles is taking off when towing a heavyish trailer (tandem box trailer with Suzuki LJ50 on it) up hill. That's a gearing issue though really and if necessary I just take off in low range and change to high.
Awesome. Thanks for all the info people! Love it! Keep it coming. Love the twin tent idea. The decking out of the back of that 130 is awesome.
