Clunk when driving off (Puma 90)

    Hi all

Both SWAMBO & I have noticed a new noise when driving around yesterday - a soft but distinct 'clunk' when driving off.

When we got home SWAMBO walked along the car while I tried to replicate it. It occurs almost every time I drive off from standstill in 1st gear, and SWAMBO says it sounds like it's coming from 'under the seats' - which probably means the transfer case.

    What could it be?

Have you checked the propshaft nuts, (most likely rear), are tight?

    Cheers,

It could be Drive flanges and/or steering ball joint.

I had it I think it was the rear diff....its easy to replicate when you pull away in first do so on just the clutch and then put it in reverse and again pull away just on the clutch..

Another member on here also has it, he was told it was normal but it is not...I finally had mine fixed not that long ago.

Just for the record I had bushes checked
    A frame ball joint changed...

    That was not the solution

Yep, when I tried to replicate, that's how I did it.

Another member on here also has it, he was told it was normal but it is not...I finally had mine fixed not that long ago.

How was it fixed: replacement of the rear diff or actual fix?

My Puma has just stopped clicking moving off At first, the noise was coming from the rear - then from the front somewhere. It wasn't the diff - it was the 2 reasons I've mentioned above - clicking noises can be caused by many things - and whilst it may be, don't assume your diff is the cause.

I'll look forward to hearing what the problem is with this then. I'm not assuming anything, but this issue..... I had the exact same symptom

its easy to replicate when you pull away in first do so on just the clutch and then put it in reverse and again pull away just on the clutch..

So, if it's not the diff, it's very likely the drive flange. LR will loctite the teeth to fix this.
