No very easy, just need a 22mm socket and give the wheel a gentle but firm pull on both sides. The centre padding of the original just unclips.

Is there anyone with an SVX that wants to swap their gear knobs for some really flash looking black plastic ones

...or know where I can pick up the two of them in alloy?

Yes, you'll get the pair here, as fitted to the German 'Experience' Limited Edition.

Matzker.de Land Rover Neufahrzeuge Gebrauchtfahrzeuge. Tuning und Zubehör für Defender, Discovery, Range Rover und Freelander. - Schaltknauf-Garnitur Experience - Defender TD4

Not cheap though at 295 Euro.

I don't think much of the original plastic job and have scoured the web looking for alternatives. Problem with the Puma is the gearknob is part of the gearstick so its a very specialised part.

If you find something else or a cheaper source then please let us know.

    Thanks for that info.

Hmmm just had a look at the manual. Hadn't realised that about the gear lever

295 EUR and it's not anything like the SVX in looks and has a stick on selection diagram

Think I'll stick with the plastic one, who knows an SVX wreck might come along

Do you need to buy a boss kit ? When I looked there was no boss kit for 2007+ just 1996 onwards I think, which boss kit did you choose if you did buy one ?

Unsure if I bought one weather 14" would be to small or the 15" such as you purchased is perfect, with a small decrease in size being perfect

Yes you need a Boss kit. The Puma wheel should be 48 spline but there are reports of some vehicles coming out with a smaller spline count. So it pays to take the wheel off and check as I don't know if this applies to AU spec 90/110/130. Mine was 48 spline.
The boss has two holes at the rear where you need to tap in two pins (supplied) to work with the indicator cancelling ring.

There are no modifications to the steering shroud or anything else required. Moto-Lita were very good to deal with.

The 14" would start to intrude on the instruments and IMO would also be too small. I've also been informed a dished 15" will intrude as well as it comes out further from the column. I think I said this in my first post, the 15" is 40mm smaller in diameter than the OEM wheel - approximately 420mm vs 380mm.

I have one of those wheels to go in my Td5. Came out of one of my Fiats many years ago. I just need to get the original wheel off to count the splines, so I can order the boss kit.

    Looks good.

    Hi dmdigital,

This wheel looks great, and is very tempting, but I would be interested in whether it would be ADR compliant (no padding on the boss), and consequently, whether it could cause roadworthiness or insurance problems.

Did you have any problem with this?

    Cheers,

    Lionel

I don't have an answer to that Lionel. It would be easy enough to get the boss cap padded if required.

Better images that also show the switch ends and the interior door handles:

Can you still hang your elbow out the window comfortably?
