Thread: headlights u/s

iv just had this prob to,, was my relay for the head lights under the dash,, i think it was the 2nd from the right, pulled it out ad it was all corroded and that, cleaned it shuv it back in and alls good,

Sorry if this is obvious but I know a few others who have fallen for this: Do you have the ignition on when trying the checks on the lights?

Check the fuses carefully, there could also be corrosion there. I had this problem in my Tdi.

The switch would have been my first thought and it may pay to put a test light across the terminals and double check. They can look OK but still be internally stuffed.

Is the bulb on the instrument cluster illuminating when the switch is on? It could be this is not connected properly or is blown. I don't know if this in series with any of the light circuit or in parallel.

My relays are good had those out yesterday arvo in the car park at work ...just cant leave the place and all that....cheers but.

Maybe I have partially blown the switch I have an old one that I can try out this arvo ....I test my lights with the engine running, always just to make sure
I took out every single fuse yesterday all good (again just to make sure and I am well aware that 85% of the fuses have no bearing on the lights state of play.)
The instrument panel works, these are the bulbs I changed and suspect caused my issues, I reverted back to the original set up to see if it had any impact.
It can only be the switch or the relay I guess or an earth but as nothing has changed to affect the earth I dont see how.

I had a similar issue with my TD5. Turned out to be a silly plug thing in the dash behind the radio. Basically this plug takes one wire and splits it into many!
This needed to be replaced and I didnt have problems again.

Any pictures at all????
