    ECU to chipped or not - Help Wanted

    I own a 2007 Defender Puma and thinking about having the ECU flash/replaced, therefore would like any feedback from owners who has this done.

    As I was looking at getting it done by Graeme Coopers Automotive or Davis Performance landys. So would like feedback / suggestions on who should do it.

    Either company know what they are doing - so go the better price IMHO.




    Mily - whilst I understand you comment (I drive a 200tDi) I can also understand him wanting to go with extra HP and torque. Just like a lot of tD5 owners who have Tombie's modification added

    If your vehicle is under warranty, be aware that any failure of the engine/drivetrain will probably result in LR denying the claims due to this mod.

    But if you are going that way, there are a couple of smaller mods you can do to improve performance/consumption:

    1. Decat the exhaust
    2. Remove the middle silencer
    5. Blank the EGR

    As with any remap, the use of a bigger intercooler is probably recommended, and also an Engine Monitoring system to keep an eye on the EGT.

    A salesman here in Brisbane told me I could chip the motor. I replied I did that in the last car and the manufacturer used it as an excuse for all they could not fix. Salesman gave me some blurb about puma's being dumbed down for african fuel, it's perfectly ok to up tune it. Though I'd be wanting that in writing, salesman will tell me anything for a sale.

    something to consider perhaps, I found with a DP chip on a Rodeo Isuzu made it very difficult to get the motor to do anything under 2000rpm. It kind of went from 0 to 2000rpm instantly than started working. Certinally made it go though, 96 kw up to 116kw but it did blow a bit of black as expected. Always thought I'd do it again, but I like the Puma the way it is....well when it's going.

    I have spoken to landrover spares in mackay and they say it gives better power torque and the engine runs smoother, I have driven the 130 puma and although it is quit powerful it lacks in the bottom end, this is where chipping works the best it will give more fuel so the turbo spools earlier. That's why I drive a turbo isuzu I love the torque
