Thread: Rain inside my Defender

Hi Ken,
Though there are other possible sources for the leak, the symptoms you describe are identical to my previous County. Could drive all day in the pouring rain and no water from above, however when parked in the rain always got an eggcupful on right knee when braking for the first time after driving off.

After considerable searching I spotted a dried water trail in the dust of the internal roof join 'gutter', looking down through the alpine window glass with a strong torch.

The seal around the window looked OK but experimenting with dribbling a hose on it, gradually a drop formed on the inside. Turned out the ends of the rubber seal had not quite been cut on a true right-angle so was not quite flush at the join. (There is a special secateur-type tool designed to cut the ends square.) The fact that the seal ends were on a very slight angle was not apparent until the seal was removed.

The drips slowly accumulated in the internal gutter when parked in the rain and ran forward when braking for the first time.

any help on where to start looking would be appreciated.

I was pleased that my D130 Puma CC did not leak, I've had it out in the weather for 6 months. It is normally parked level.
I parked it in a different spot over the weekend - still level, and on moving it this morning, heard water sloshing.
Arrghhh! The passenger's deep lipped floor mat had about half a Litre of water in it.

It emptied out the door fine - I guess I now have to try and find where it is coming in.

Anyone else been down this track?

Y have leaks on the Defe and I believe that the gutters at the front are to short and the water get trough the front gaps of the doors when the vehicle is not level.
I would look into making extension bits to the gutters to see if this fix some of the problems.
My old 109 used to have the same problem.

Look in the files section of AULRO (see top menu) there is a "Defender water Ingress manual" (no I'm not kidding) which will help you !

Yep, did that a couple of times after muddy trips, pleased as punch that there were no leaks from that.

I know someon who had ione of the first Pumas in the country.
It was so bad that ALL teh panels had to be removed and replaced / sealed / etc.
