Thread: Wheel options for Defender 110

I am also considering changing the wheels on my 110. I will be sticking to the tyre sizes as recommended in the owners manual. 7.50 x 16 OR 235/85 R16.

Current tyres are 7.50 x 16

I will be changing for the 235/85 R16

Accordingly I need new wheels.

I dislike alloy wheels. I was very disappointed with the alloys on my last Defender when they were badly affected with corrosion between the steel hub & alloy wheel.

Here in UK there are some modular wheels available 7" x 16" rated at 1590 kg with an 8mm positive offset. The offset on my Defender standard steel wheels is positive 33mm.

The other wheel I am considering is the Wolf. 6.5" x 16"

I have King brand wheels on my 130 at 16 x 8" with zero offset and even with 255/85 x 16s on it nothing scrubs. They cost me $110 each though. You could get second hand 130 rims at 16 x 6.5 if you don't mind tubes. British Offroad sell them for $120 each however.

G'day Mike, As mentioned you can run 130 rims with 235/85R16's. I have been using these on a County for some years. Good strong rim in tubed or tubeless.

Thanks 2stroke! Have you any idea when on full lock what clearence you have on the front pan rods? I'm hoping to go to 265mm in either the cooper range or goodyear Wrangler.

I'm either going to go with the Wolf rimsas you suggest, or with the King wheels. I have seen modified Wolf Wheels with an off set, and these look really good. Anyway thanks!

If you want 265s don't discount disco 1 steel rims.

You can fit 265s on standard disco 1 rims. They will rub the rear shock towers on articulation and the radius arms on tight turns if you don't adjust the stops.

I have modified my 2 sets of disco rims to have 20 mm extra offset and 30 mm of extra offset. I have 255/85-16s and 285/75-16s on them respectively.

I had the first set done by a speedway car builder in Brisbane - $45ea, when Race Engineering wanted ~$85ea. I had the 2nd set done by Summerfield Engineering in Perth about 4 years later - I was amazed when they only wanted $40+GST each.
