    Ls1 Manual-Defender?

Have been trolling the net for weeks trying to find info on putting an Ls1 into my 110. The info I'm after is what gearbox and transfer was used if not the factory stuff, and how it was mated to the motor if it was factory or otherwise. I'm after a manual. If any one has done this, or seen it done could you point me in the right direction.
I know this is a touchy subect for some, I have read though enough forums in the last week to see that, so opinions are expected but useful information would be appreciated greatly.

    Cheers

Very nice cal, just finnished reading the whole thing.
So its nice to know you think the rover transfer is strong enough. I am going to quiz an engineer to see if I can get a new output shaft made for the t56 gearbox. If I get a nod will check on price for making a batch. Was starting to think I was going to have to change the rear diff as well or use an aftermarket transfer, but then all the stuff i could find was set up for cruisers.

Yes thats what i am thinking, getting a dead t56 and dead r380 box/ transfer. Maybe if I dim the lights and put on some mood music they will "hybridise" themselves.
Searching on the net, the t56 to transfer seem to be the holy grail that heaps of blokes are after. They dont even offer it in the chev range.
Have seen a couple of pics that a guy did himself. The problem seems to be the extension housin on the regular t56 houses the reverse gear, unless you want to pay for the corvette box which is different, and would be alot easier to convert.
Time to call in for some favours for some dead gearboxes.

Apparently these guys do a t56 to lt230 conversion:

Hmmm i believe they only do a TKO 5 speed to LT230 not a t56.... went down that path a while back...

It looks like they have a "remote" input shaft with a flange that might be suitable. How well is the transfer on the 110's mounted? do you think a stand alone transfer is a good idea? It should only be a couple of inches between the front of the transfer and back of the t56 if i get a similar flange arrangement for the out put of the gearbox.
