    110 vs 130 Off road

Given that the 110 wagon doesn't have traction control, so the are on an equal footing. How does the 130 duel cab fare off road compared to a 110. Like the idea of the ute etc but all the modern duel cabs are hopeless off road.
    What do you think?

Depends on the offroad. The 130 is heavier, has a larger turning circle, and worse breakover angle. But for most offroad situations, there would be little to choose.

In my view the only time you would notice the difference is on narrow winding tracks with trees each side, or very sharp changes in grade, or on surfaces almost too soft for the 110. Mostly, it would just be a matter of driving a bit more carefully. I think it would be very rare for you not to be able to follow a 110.

    weeelll,
I have only had an opportunity to get mine off road for a relatively short period so I don't have much cred.
But I can tell you the 130 went up a rutty loose slope with it's open diffs and no traction without an issue. My previous Jap twin cab with it's 2inch lift would have needed it's rear locker on, and scraped and bashed it way up there.
Actually I was told I had a wheel off the ground by almost a meter for a meter or so, and to honest I can't say I noticed.

I am told a 130 often does all right for it's self as it's wheel track length doesn't match a Cruiser or Patrol, so if one set of wheels are in the ditch, the others are just out giving it the grip or inertia to get through. Not sure if this is true but it does make you feel good about a 130.

I swung it around a tight bend and down a steep slop just like the Discos and 110's did. I did 3 point turns where the Discos and 110's did.

Check out you tube and glass house mountains, there are a couple of blokes giving their 130's a good going there somewhere, they seem to be doing just fine.

As for traction control, be aware the newer 110's have it. Good and bad, some have reported it can rob you of inertia. Like up a slippery slop TC brakes the vehicle thus slowing it, when sometimes a bit of momentum is what you really need.

Happy to be corrected but I am sure 110 wagons DO have traction control, well at least since 2002. Some one who knows more re defenders could say when it came out for sure

In Australia, ETC is standard on the 110 Station Wagon and Crew Cab Pick Up. It is optional on all other 110s (ie 2 Door Hard Top, Single Cab HCPU, and Cab Chassis). It is not available on any 130s. It is also standard on the 90 Station Wagon.

I don't know about a 110 vs a 130 but I do know about a stock GU Patrol ute vs a 130 (lifted 40mm at the front) as we used to use both on a farm.

Surprisingly the 130 had a better ramp over angle than the Patrol, I'd regularly get the Patrol stuck on contour banks that I'd walk over in the 130.

The patrol is only a few inches shorter than a 130 though isn't it???

IME the length of a 130 is often an advantage when climbing offroad.

117-120" wheel base or thereabouts ? (the manual isn't on the shelf where it should be )

Anyway, there's a lot less clearance between the chassis and the ground than a 110/130 despite their high riding appearance.
