I learned to love AM radio, sounds exactly the same no matter what speakers you play it through.
Anybody fitted speakers in a Defender 130? The current speakers are hard hear without turning it up bloody loud, so I was considering fitting some in the roof lining just forward of the driver and passenger.
I know bugger all about sound, but was thinking of putting bass speakers where the factory jobs are, and treble? speakers in the roof.
Is this a good idea?

Ranga,
have a read of what I did. I got it all off this forum. 4'' speakers go nicely in the hood lining. I placed them just behind the centre hood lining seam, using the seam for strength, but also added a 7mm ply hoop behind the hood lining to help support the speakers. I found by upgrading the front speakers, adding some mid placed speakers just behind my head, and some 6" on the rear wall just to the side of the seats I got a full cabin sound that was hard to tell where it was being produced from. I also added a sub but I think it could be done successfully without.

I've just mounted some 6x9 behind the rear seats, not an ideal position as these need to dicharge the sound into free space not like a sub. Having done it though in a hurry with a piece of 18mm MDF bolted to the 2 uprights with the speaker about 60mm from each upright the sound is not bad at all about 300% improved and Im quite happy. Bundaleen did on on a 130 with sub and amp I think. Have a look in projects.
Cheers

This place might be able to help, but would need to be careful in water crossings. Alex Minassian Car Audio, Landrover Installations . Personally I'd get some good soundproofing first.
