    rhino pioneer platform rack defender

Hi this looks like a neat solution for defender to keep height down but still a full expedition type rack:

Rhino Rack - Roof Racks for LAND ROVER Defender 110 4WD LWB 02/93 On

Has anyone fitted it to their Defender and what do they think of it? Pictures?

thats doesn't look too bad however i'm guessing it needs to sit on the standard three or four bars which adds to the height

have you looked at wind cheater, much the same price and i reckon looks better, maybe thats because i have one fitted

i wonder which has the lower profile

rhino have a good name in the quality side of things so you wont go wrong there

Looks like all you need in addition to the platform is 4 pairs of legs (ie no bars needed). All up price is $1245. Biggest weakness is its maximum load capacity of 100 kg. The Defender roof is rated for a 150 kg load. I would have thought that a WindCheetah 2.8 metre rack (all flat or expedition with half rails) would be a better option for about $150 more. I like Rhino stuff and have a pair of their bars with kayak carriers, but I much prefer my WindCheetah rack to any Rhino Rack I have seen. Check them out at OppositeLock. I think there is a few stores around Brisbane.

I was recently quoted $700 for the 1.9m long Rhino Pioneer Platform rack - this was without the legs as I already have six legs from my bars. The legs do apparantly bolt straight to the flat rack so profile would be kept reasonably low.

I've been checking them all out and the Rhino platform has won me. Already having 4 bars helps. They're all exy. List price for the Defender Platform is $840, but to fit it to the bars you need the adaptors as well for another $140 I think.

I like the Rhino stuff. Very well made and price competitive.

What about these as an alternative?

    http://www.rhinorack.com.au/AccSubCategory_Steel-Mesh-Platform-Racks_74.aspx

Steel mesh. Very low profile. Relatively easy on-off. I'm thinking this may be more versatile than any of the others, allowing cross-bars only for day-to-day use and for things like surfboards, bikes, etc, and then an easy change to something more substantial when required. And easy to store when not in use.

    Any thoughts?

price is another thing but for weight (less) and quality (excellent) the answer is, I think, Hannibal

Thanks. I like the idea of easy change when required. I wonder about the weight?

Is the weight less than the Rhino Vlad? As they're aluminium, I'd be surprised, but happy to be corrected.
