If I could do it over again, I would definitely have gotten a pre-delivery inspection from an independent mechanic (at the time I thought a new car would be in a new condition. I was wrong).

If you're up for it, can you please send me some photos of the rust on your new defender?

Can I ask what's the current status of your dealing with land rover?
I'm still waiting for them to get back to me.

    Hope you're having better luck!

I just hope other LR buyers this month have taken the time to look under their cars. If my rust had not been discovered until the first service, I am sure it would have been a whole different ball game.

Website!!! Wow, they have picked the wrong guy to mess with!

I have sent you a PM with a few details of what's been going on with my 90R. Details to come on the thread later.

LRA and the Dealership Service Dept have now stepped up their plans for fixing the issue on my 90. I can't fault them on their effort and communication.

Wurths cavity wax inside the doors (also slows a partially knackered door)

Wurths or waxoyl through the chassis.

Paint the chassis with epoxy primer and top coat (really get to know your vehicle)

Then use wurths/waxoyl on the chassis outer, do the bulkhead folded seams you can see, behind the brake master and the heater box, drill a small hole on the A post inner and pump some love into there and plug it with a grommet is good practice

Wurths expensive as all **** but wurth it!!
It has seepage abilities and really is the technical preserver as it's seepage ability allows something 10 mm either side of a seam

Write to the papers/car magazines/consumer affairs programs and Mr Tata himself. Venting here will let others know who already own a LR product and the astute researcher but as far as benefit for you in putting pressure on LR it will only get you sympathy.

    Good call.

For now, as the original post, I'm just after advice so I can discern the appropriate resolution to the issue. If I'm satisfied with the outcome, there's no need to take the actions above.

But yes, there has been some venting.

Great tips, thanks for the advice.

One problem is there's also rust on the top of the car, some coming through paint on non alloy panels.

Yeah, it's not good. Sounds like snow under the car isn't the issue here.

I don't have photos of the top, only the underside.

    Interesting reading.

When i picked up my brand new XR6 in 2004, I discovered rust on the.... seat belt clasp

Pointed this out to the dealer, and he gave me the "oh, thats nothing to worry about." The look on my face said more than the words that were about to follow.

All 5 seat belt clasps were replaced, and I made damn sure I kept a check on them over the following years.

    Photos?

    Hi guys,

It would be great to see photographs of the underside of the Def, and the damage. I bet there are a lot of guys picking up new 90's this month, we should all be on the look out.

    dealer indifference

land rover arn't the only dead beat disinterested dealer network, couple of years ago I leased a suzuki vitara for work commute as young kids didn't need big back seat and it was still able to tow boat. when I looked at it on the weekend proir to being told it had turned up ( at dealer by chance) it was dinted in the left rear, when called to pick up I queried the dint and was told give us a couple of days to fix. when I turned up to take delivery the dint was still there and their responce to my "your kidding" was its only a lease car why do you care. when pushed they offered to paintless dent remove it again i pointed to the cracked paint and pushed (swore) some more. I told them car wasn't leaving and the owner(lease company) would deal with them and id recommend no further dealings with them from lease company and my own company. The only person at the dealership interested was the original saleman who to his credit "stole" the car every chance he got an filled the tank on the dealership card each service. One good guy will never make me forget the overall attitude though as it went as high as the mamager
