    Tempted to buy a 130

You know how it is...as soon as you see a landy for sale you have to have a look....doesnt matter if you dont need it...a look cant hurt....can it?

Spotted a 1999 Td5 130 dualcab for sale locally...ex abalone divers tow car
Its pretty shabby, but I like the idea of having something that me and the kids can bash around in and not worry about scratching it, or listening to SWMBO complaining about me dirtying her D2
    Bad points
    rusty bulkhead...repairable
    Interior shabby...Can handle that
    300,000 km
    Original rims
    Tyres need replacing
    Good points
Maxi drive rear flanges....could be MD axles behind them?
TD5...engine bay is surprisingly spotless compared with the rest of it
    ARB bar
    Spotties
    Price.....$4000.00!!!!

I haven't heard it run, or heard back from the owner yet, but I'm thinking that it could probably be sold off for parts for about the same amount(one of my excuses to the mrs)
    Should I run away????

$4000 for a beast in any condition is a bargain. You are right about parts. You wouldnt have to sell much and you would have your money back and quite a few panels still in stock.
However, abalone diver = salt water - what's the chassis like?
Of course, if you dont sell it for parts it changes from being an income earning asset (what SWMBO currently thinks) to being an expense absorbing liability - then the arguments start and they all start with the same 3 words "That bloody car ....."

There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Land Rover......

Not sure if these are wise words, but you could sink a lot of cash into it bringing it back to a good standard.

For $4000 though, I reckon you'd get your money back just in parts.

Were you married to my wife in a previous life ????

I know there is no such thing as a cheap landy...but hopefully it wont cost me too much.

The chassis looks reasonable, the bulkhead is pretty rotten, but hey...Im not looking for anything flash...and if I decide to strip it and part it out..well..whats another landy in the driveway
